Dermal fillers are soft tissue fillers injected into the different layers of skin to fill in and add volume.
They are available in different forms like Hyaluronic acid, PMMA, and Calcium hydroxylapatite. Your doctor may choose them depending on the type of skin and deciding on the desired outcome.
Another type of filler is autologous fat graft, wherein the fat is extracted from the person's body, purified and injected into the face. This treatment, unlike others, requires two weeks of downtime, and your doctor may ask you to restrain from heavy activities for some time.
We provide various options at the Velvet Skin Centre; walk in to experience the best filler treatment in Lucknow.

What are the uses of dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers help to reduce or remove certain signs of ageing. They are mainly focused on the static lines of the face. They reduce wrinkles and can fill up the acne pores. Overall they help to add in the lost volume due to ageing.

They can mainly focus on the following

  • the wrinkles around your eyes, nose and mouth
  • nasolabial fold or the line from your nose to the side of your mouth
  • the hollowing of cheek

Dermal fillers may also be used to address skin thinning and give a plump look to patients who are receiving certain treatments that cause thinning of the skin.

What is the process of Dermal Filler:

A dermal filler boosts or puffs up particular areas of the face. Dermal Fillers target the regions that succumb to sagging skin, which makes a hollow look. The specific way in which the procedure works depends on the type of fillers used. Existing options contain:

  • Hyaluronic acid: The most commonly used type of dermal Filler is hyaluronic acid filler, which draws fluid to the selected face part that needs a lift. Hyaluronic acid is famous for filler brands such as Juvederm, Captique, and Restylane; the outcomes of these fillers typically stay around nine months to 1 year.
  • Fat graft: A fat graft, also called autologous fat, directs to fat cells taken from another part of the individual's body and then injected into the recipient area. Since the injected fillers are actual human fat, the outcomes of this type of procedure can last for years.
  • Polymer: Filler brands like Sculptra uses an artificial and biodegradable polymer substance. Polymer is another durable option, with effects lasting up to two years.
  • Calcium hydroxylapatite: This is the natural substance available in the famous filler brand Radiesse, which can control wrinkles and skin ageing at bay for up to 12 months.
  • Bovine collagen: Fillers like Zyderm and Zyplast utilise bovine collagen. However, due to this substance's core, the patient must experience an allergy examination at least one month before the therapy to confirm that they will not have any negative responses to the injectable Filler.
  • Microscopic plastic beads: Because the bovine collagen procedure does not offer permanent results, mixed with tiny dots made of polymethyl methacrylate or PMMA that stay under the skin for right even when the collagen dissolves away; they, therefore, actually extend the effects of the procedure to at least five years.

Your dermatologist or a cosmetic surgeon can carry out a filler treatment. However, of which substance is used as the filling agent, a more critical part of the process is usually the same. The person first receives local anaesthesia to numb the facial region. Then, once the anaesthesia has dropped in, and your surgeon or dermatologist injects the Filler into the predetermined place, simply under the skin. For fat grafts, however, the fat utilised as the filling agent is harvested from another body region.

Each therapy will take around 15 minutes. However, following sessions may be necessary depending on the situation's severity and the procedure area's size. If so, each session should be spaced at least two weeks apart.

Dos and Don'ts for Filler Treatment

During many treatments, we do require a few days or weeks to show effect, this one has immediate results, and clients enjoy their desired transformation as soon as they leave the office. But to enjoy this transformation, there are some Dos and Don't that you need to be aware of, either before or after the procedure. Here are some of them:

Pre-Procedure Dos

Understand your problem areas. Many patients think their nasolabial fold NLF (the fold between the cheeks and the nose) is too deep and ask to fill it. However, a careful examination and measurement of the face reveal that the cheek has significantly lost volume and exacerbated the NLF's depth. In this case, we need to address the loss of importance in the cheeks before we treat the NLF.

Start taking Arnica two days before your appointment. This is not mandatory, but it helps reduce the risk of bruising, especially when doing lip fillers.

Inform your dermatologist if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant.

Tell your doctor if you have any history of cold sores. Your doctor can prescribe you an antiviral before your treatment to limit any flare of your condition.

Post-Procedure Dos

Apply Arnica topically and/or continue to take oral Arnica at home. This will help reduce the chances of bruising. Eating pineapple can also help with bruising too!

Put an ice pack on the injected area to reduce swelling. This is important, especially on the first day after treatment.

If you have any pain, take Tylenol. If you have increased swelling or itching, try over-the-counter antihistamines like Zyrtec, Benadryl or Claritin.

You can start using your sunscreen and makeup immediately after. Still, it would help if you were very gentle while rubbing the area treated.

If you have cheek fillers, try to sleep on your back for the night. An excellent trick to help you stay on your back is to put your hair up in piggy tails. This way, whenever you turn to your side, your hair will stop you.

Pre-Procedure Don'ts

Avoid taking any Over-the-Counter blood thinners one week before your treatment. Such blood thinners include Aspirin, Motrin, Aleve, or Ibuprofen. If you are on prescribed blood thinner, make sure to let your injector know to take all precautions.

Avoid over-the-counter supplements like St. John's Wort, Gingko Biloba, primrose oil, garlic, ginseng, and Vitamin E. If you are on any, stop using them at least 1 week before your treatment.

Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinol, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, or any "anti-ageing" products. These can cause irritation to the skin and increase the risk of bruising or infection.

Do not drink alcohol 24 hours before your treatment.

Post-Procedure Don'ts

Don't rub the area treated unless instructed to.

Avoid itching or picking near the injection site.

Avoid applying low heat to the injected area, including hot tubs, saunas, sunbathing or tanning.

Please don't drink alcohol on the day of treatment, and try to avoid it for two days.

Avoid exercising for 2 days or until the swelling subsides.

Faq's of Dermal Filler Treatment

What are the risks associated with dermal fillers?
As dermal fillers are injected into the skin layer, the injection rarely goes deeper up to the blood vessels and damages them, causing reduced blood flow to the area and necrosis or death of the tissue. But, again, the chances are low when carried out by an experienced dermatologist who can understand how deep exactly to go.
Permanent side effects like scarring though very rare, may occur.
If you are on blood thinners like aspirin or other long-term treatments, discuss the possible side effects with your dermatologist in Lucknow.
Also, stop using any anti-ageing cream at least two to three weeks prior to the procedure, as these may increase the likelihood of potential harm.

Is dermal Filler permanent?
No, dermal fillers usually use absorbable substances to inject into the layers of skin, and they, therefore, get absorbed after a particular period.
Hyaluronic acid fillers can last from six months to one and a half years. However, invasive and surgical options like facelifts are available if you are looking for a relatively permanent effect.
We use safe and approved chemicals for dermal fillers in Lucknow. They give instant effects, but for long-term benefits, you may require a touchup once in a while

Are dermal fillers expensive?
The treatment cost of dermal fillers in Lucknow varies from 15,000 to 27,000 rupees per ml. The price range varies depending on the type of injectable used, the brand, the amount required and the longevity of dermal fillers.

Are dermal fillers painful?
Dermal fillers make use of tiny needles to inject the substances into your face; they usually don't cause much pain, though a slight stinging sensation may be felt during the injection,

How long does dermal filler treatment take?
Dermal fillers usually take 15 minutes to one hour per procedure in our centre for dermal fillers in Lucknow. You can go home and resume your daily activities the same day. However, if you have undergone an autologous fat graft, your doctor may ask you to rest for about two weeks.

Is dermal Filler better than Botox?
The question stands invalid as they cannot be weighed on the same scale. They are both designed to work differently. Dermal fillers aim to add volume and give a plump look, while Botox works by diminishing the expression lines. You can sit with your doctor and discuss your treatment goals, and they can help you decide which one to choose. It cannot be said that one is better than the other. They are simply two different procedures.
