HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a non-surgical treatment that lifts and tightens loose or sagging skin using ultrasound energy — often described as a “non-surgical facelift” because of how it works beneath the skin’s surface without a single incision.
At The Velvet Skin Centre, HIFU is performed under the supervision of Dr. Asma Parveen (MBBS, MD — Dermatology), who assesses your skin laxity before recommending the right treatment plan.

HIFU tends to be a good option if you’re noticing:
One thing worth knowing upfront: HIFU works best on mild-to-moderate laxity. For more advanced sagging, a surgical facelift is likely to give you a bigger, more noticeable change — Dr. Asma will tell you honestly if that’s the case for you, rather than recommending HIFU regardless of how suitable it actually is.
HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. Unlike lasers, which work with light energy, HIFU uses focused ultrasound waves that pass through the surface of the skin without damaging it, reaching down to the same structural layer a surgeon would work on during a facelift.
This makes it fundamentally different from most other non-surgical skin tightening treatments, since it can reach a depth that topical treatments and many lasers cannot.

As the ultrasound energy reaches its target depth, it warms the tissue there just enough to kickstart your body’s own repair process. That repair process is what drives new collagen production in the treated area over the following weeks and months.
As new collagen forms, the skin gradually tightens and lifts from within — which is why HIFU results build gradually rather than appearing instantly, and why the effect can continue improving for several months after a single session.
HIFU may not be suitable if you:
Dr. Asma will review your medical history and assess your skin before confirming you’re a good candidate.
There’s very little preparation required, which is one of the reasons patients find HIFU convenient:
Your skin is cleansed and a conductive gel is applied to the treatment area. Dr. Asma then uses a handheld ultrasound device to deliver focused energy to the targeted depth beneath your skin.
Most patients feel a warm sensation or brief pulses of heat during treatment — described by some as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. A topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand if needed for comfort.
Session length depends on the area being treated — a facial session typically takes around 30 to 60 minutes; treating a larger area or combining multiple zones may take longer
One of HIFU’s biggest advantages is that there’s genuinely very little aftercare required. Most patients resume normal activities immediately.
Mild redness or slight swelling in the treated area is common and usually settles within a few hours. A tingling sensation may persist for a few days to a couple of weeks as your skin responds to treatment. Occasionally, some patients experience temporary numbness or mild bruising, which typically resolves within a few days on its own.
Results build gradually rather than appearing overnight:
How long do results last?
Many patients enjoy the benefits of a single HIFU session for a year or longer, with some seeing results last several years depending on skin condition and lifestyle. This is notably longer-lasting than non-surgical alternatives like thread lift, though a surgical facelift can still achieve more dramatic, longer-lasting correction for advanced sagging.
Most patients need between one and three sessions for their desired result, depending on the degree of skin laxity being treated.
HIFU treatment at The Velvet Skin Centre typically costs between ₹5,000 and ₹15,000 per session, depending on:

HIFU is described as “operator-dependent” for good reason — the depth at which energy is delivered has to be adjusted precisely for different areas of the face. Too shallow, and the treatment has little effect; too deep or in the wrong area, and it can affect facial volume rather than just tightening skin.
Dr. Asma Parveen (MBBS, MD — Dermatology) personally assesses your skin laxity and treatment goals before determining the right depth and settings for each area treated. With 14+ years of clinical experience and 5,000+ patients treated, she takes a measured approach — treating conservatively where needed rather than pushing for a more dramatic result than your skin calls for.

HIFU is excellent for tightening loose skin, but it’s not the only tool for facial rejuvenation — and it’s not always the right one on its own. If what you’re noticing is more about lost volume than sagging — hollow cheeks or temples, for example — that’s a different problem, and Dermal Filler Treatment might address it better, either instead of or alongside HIFU. Some patients ask how HIFU compares to Face Lift / Thread Lift — the short answer is that thread lift gives a more immediate lift but doesn’t last as long, while HIFU works more gradually but tends to hold its results for longer. If your sagging is genuinely advanced, it’s also worth an honest conversation with Dr. Asma about whether a surgical facelift referral would serve you better than either non-surgical option.

Results typically begin showing 3–4 weeks after your session and continue improving for up to three months afterward. It’s particularly effective for tightening the jawline and neck, including skin laxity following weight loss.
At The Velvet Skin Centre, only treatments assessed and approved by recognised regulators are used. Serious side effects are uncommon. You may feel tightness in the treated area for up to 48 hours after treatment. In rare cases, temporary loss of volume in facial structures has been reported.
If you smoke, cutting back beforehand can help your body generate connective tissue more effectively and may reduce bruising. HIFU should be avoided during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as safety research in this area is still limited. Arrive with a clean face — no makeup or skincare products — since the treatment is applied directly to bare skin with only a conductive gel.
There’s no specific aftercare required. It’s normal to feel tightness in the treated area for up to 48 hours afterward. If you have any concerns following treatment, you’re welcome to speak with Dr. Asma for guidance.

Many patients see results lasting a year or longer from a single session, with some benefits persisting for several years depending on skin and lifestyle. Most patients need 1 to 3 sessions total, depending on their degree of skin laxity.
